Other News:

The school, after consultation with the P & C, put forward two projects in the first round of the BER (Building the Education Revolution) FUNDING – Federal Government Economic Stimulus Package and has been successful in being awarded $200,000.00. These projects are:

1. Internal fit out of the barn to include storage areas for art and TAS works, photography/visual arts room, kitchen/laundry for the teaching of life skills, storage area for chairs, disabled toilet, connected classroom, dance studio with sprung floor, costumes department and two staffrooms which will free up existing staff areas for senior classes. Installation of video and multi core cabling to link barn to stage and performance area.

2. Lining the studio, includes upgrade electrical to allow for fitting out of a drama studio including lighting and sound, air conditioning and extending the studio to include storage areas for exam tables, chairs and drama props. This area will also be used for exams. Total cost of these projects is $225,000.00 leaving the P & C to make up the $25,000.00 shortfall.

The school has also applied for the installation of a new science lab under another round of BER funding and we will await advice to see if the application is successful.

Read more about the above on the May 2009 P and C newsletter.

The P&C has initiated a School Building fund whereby parents can donate to school building projects and enable them to claim this as a tax deduction. Your donation would be greatly appreciated to further develop the facilities at our great school. A form can be downloaded by clicking here to make a donation and forward it to the school office.

The Narara Valley High P&C have in the past successfully fund raised to provide additional facilities for the school such as the Industrial Kitchen and a full stage for the hall. Without the enthusiasm of the P&C, our students, would not have these great facilities.

The P&C supports better education, more resources, a safe and friendly environment and most of all our dedicated teachers and staff.

The 2009 Committee would like to extend an open invitation to all parents, students and staff at the school to attend any P&C meeting. Become involved in your child’s school. You can be a volunteer for any P & C activities. Some activities can take as little as 20 minutes of your time. You can join and receive minutes by email even if you can’t get to meetings.

The Narara Valley High School P&C Association meets the second Tuesday of every month during school term at 7:30pm in the Staff Common Room. Check here for any updates on this.

A very interesting speaker came to our May meeting to give a brief overview of problem gambling and how it can affect students and their families. The meeting was presented with some very frightening statistics including the fact that in all of New South Wales our regions 18 to 24 age group are most at risk of becoming addicted gamblers.

It is for this reason the school has agreed to be part of a pilot program to educate students and their families about these dangers and the support groups that are available on the Central Coast. Keep an eye on the website – we often have interesting speakers. Over the past year we have had several head teachers come along and explain what their faculty does.
